The town of Carefree is just northeast of the town of Cave Creek. One of the largest subdivisions in terms of area, is Desert Mountain. This enclave is an 8,000-acre master-planned community featuring a wide range of homes from single-family to condos to townhomes in separate neighborhoods (or “villages”), many of which are gated. Desert Mountain, developed by Lyle Anderson, also features six different clubhouses, a tennis center as well as a spa, swimming and fitness facility. Desert Mountain is also home to the world’s largest collection of championship courses designed by Jack Nicklaus. These six courses, with 108 holes, provide opportunities for individual play at various skill levels.
From the Geronimo course with its 160-yard, par 3 last hole over a canyon to the most recent Outlaw course with its Scottish links design, there is a course for everyone. The golf practice facilities are extensive, with multiple pitching, chipping, putting and bunker areas, and four separate practice ranges with target greens. The most recent addition is the $1.6 million Jim Flick Golf Performance Center which features 3-D motion capture, Doppler radar and four-camera video motion analysis to help golfers improve and understand their game.
